Let’s talk tripods…
When i travel I tend to pack a tripod for those long exposures and low light conditions. But once I arrive at my destination, I seldom take that tripod with me.
The reason being that it’s frankly too cumbersome and too heavy, especially when it’s hot.
At the moment I have been using a 3-Legged Thing Albert tripod (brand name) and it weighs about 2,4 kg (5.5 lbs) and to be honest with you, it’s a bit heavy.

This is the New 2.0 Albert – Looks the same as  My 1.0

So, for the past years I have been talking to other photographers and watching photographers on YouTube declare their favorite tripod, but I haven’t really done anything about it.

However, last year I spent 5 weeks around India, forcing myself to do YouTube (for the memories mostly) and trying to combine that with my love for photography.
I realized that having 2 cameras, a couple of lenses and filming myself was enough weight in my shoulder bag, so I left the 2,4 kg tripod in the hotel room for most days.
Every time wishing I had a lighter tripod.
First I was looking at getting a new version of the tripod I have, I’m actually happy with it. But looking at the weight of the newer 2.0 version, it’s at 2kg…a little lighter, but not enough.

There is a tripod from Peak Design called the Travel Tripod in aluminium, weighs in at 1,6 kg and comes in at 4700.- sek (about 450 Euros).
This was actually on my mind for a while, but I wanted the carbon fibre one from Peak Design that weighs only 1.3 kg, but that comes at a heavy price tag of 7200.- sek ( about 680 Euros).
It all sounds good with the 1,3 kg and all, but the price…. not within my budget.

So, that leaves us looking further…
I have during these years been using accessories from  a company called Ulanzi. I found that they have a similar tripod, in carbon fibre called the Ulanzi F38 Quick Release Travel Tripod.
This tripod weighs in at 1,1 kg (2,2 lbs) and it looks very much like the Peak Design one, but was 4200,- Sek … so I hesitated for a while.

The other day I went back to the site Ulanzi.de (as I’m in Europe), to get a few more accessories for my Dji Pocket 3. To my delight they had an Easter sale going on.

This time I did not hesitate…I got the Ulanzi F38 tripod for 2400.- Sek (about 210 Euros), so almost half the price.  😀

To get the same one, or just have a look at the specs :  Ulanzi F38

I will have to get back to post my final thoughts about the tripod once I have been using it for a while. Hasn’t even arrived yet. But it has some great reviews on YouTube… so I’m hoping.

More to follow.
